Recently one of the LDS chapels not too far from our house was burned down due to arson. We have been told that there had been multiple attempts in the past by someone to try and burn this chapel down. This time they were successful.

I saw this quote by Martin Luther King Jr. that I think really applies to the burning of the chapel and other acts of hate and violence. It says:
"When evil men plot, good men must plan. When evil men burn and bomb, good men must build and bind. When evil men shout ugly words of hatred, good men must commit themselves to the glories of love."
Here are some glimpses of some of our good missionaries continuing to plan, to build and to bind, and to be committed to the "glories of love."

And of course - above all - good men and women stay committed to "the glories of love!"

It is sad that someone would feel so much hate that they would break into the chapel and pour gasoline all over the draperies then set them on fire. Who would be filled with so much hate? And why? We may never know the answer to those questions. But we do know that the kingdom of God has never been a stranger to enemies and opposition. But we also can be assured of what Joseph Smith said:
"The Standard of Truth has been erected; no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done."
Here's to all the good men and women in the world and in the Church who focus on planning and building and binding and who are committed to the glories of love.
Until next time,
Onward, ever onward!

Love that pic of dad and the investigator. Crazy about the arson...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Micah. I wish you could see your Dad in action. He is doing such a great job. He really loves the people and the missionaries.
DeleteHow sad! I am sorry to hear about such an act, but I LOVE the idea of building from the ashes! Like the talk Pres. Uchtdorf gave during conference! Let us continue to build no matter our situation! May you be blessed while you build in Brazil!
ReplyDeleteRachael, So good to see you on this blog! Thanks for brining up P. Uchtdorf's talk. Such a perfect reference. I even went back and read it again after seeing your comment and thought I'd add this quote: "His plan is to build us into something far greater than what we were—far greater than what we can ever imagine. With each step of faith on the path of discipleship, we grow into the beings of eternal glory and infinite joy we were designed to become." Thanks for your inspiring and kind words!
DeleteNoi amiamo te e la tua famiglia meravigliosa!
So sad about the chapel!! I love seeing pics of you and Dave with investigators. You're doing such amazing work down there. Love you both!
ReplyDeleteThanks,Tennille. We will always be so grateful you and the family got to join us here and be part of the mission too. Thanks for your encouragement! Love you too!
ReplyDeleteWow, seeing that chapel burn was so sad, but the pictures of all the amazing missionaries and Dave teaching lifted my spirits. I want to be committed to the "glories of love!" What a beautiful thought from Martin Luther King Jr. Thanks for another uplifting post! Love you Zia!!

ReplyDeleteTanya, love you too, mia nipote preziosa! And yes! I love that phrase, "the glories of love" too! You ARE one of the glories of love in my life! Thanks for chiming in.
DeleteIt touches me so dearly to see photos of Dad in action as well. And seeing you in action makes me smile from ear to ear. I am so proud of you two. It is so difficult for me to understand why people would do certain things- especially to bring down good. But I love the quote from MLK Jr. and also the one from Joseph Smith. That one gave me chills when reading it with this post! We are totally seeing persecution all of the time toward our Church and will only continue to see more, I'm sure. However, the truth will press on and will be immovable, as should we as members! Keep on keepin' on!
ReplyDeleteLove you!
Meggie
Oh Meggie Moo, I love your comment so much! You are so right that we must press on and be steadfast and immovable too! You keep on keeping on too! Love you so much! Mama
